About
Meet Ross
A small tax practice in Tampa, run by one person who does the work and answers the phone.
I've been preparing taxes since 2015. It started with helping my church get its financials in order — once people saw I could untangle that, they started asking me to look at their own returns, and it grew from there by word of mouth.
TaxesbyRoss is deliberately small. Preparing taxes isn't my full-time job, so I'm not trying to build this into a big firm with a front desk and a rotating staff. What that means for you: you work directly with me from the first conversation to the filed return. No hand-offs, no call center, no junior preparer you never met doing the actual work.
I work with all kinds of taxpayers, but over the years most of my clients have been military families. Military returns come with their own set of rules — combat pay, residency and multi-state filing, moving situations, and benefits that a general preparer often misses — and it's work I know well and take seriously.
Who I work with
- Military families
- Individual 1040 filers
- 1099 contractors and gig workers
- Rideshare and delivery drivers
- Truck drivers
- Rental property owners
- Small business owners
- People catching up on prior-year returns
Military families are the heart of the practice — see specialized tax services.
How working with me works
- 1. Reach out. Most people come by referral. Send a message or call and we'll set up a time to talk.
- 2. A short phone call (about 8–12 minutes). We go over your situation so I understand what you need and can give you a price. No cost, no obligation.
- 3. The intake form. We walk through the client intake form together to capture the details, and I email you a copy for your records.
- 4. You send your documents securely. Everything is exchanged through a secure, encrypted email system — see how your information is handled.
- 5. I prepare the return. Not an assistant — me. Starting prices are on the pricing page; the final number is set before any work begins.
- 6. You can reach me afterward. Questions after filing are part of the deal, not a new invoice.
About my credentials
I am a paid tax return preparer registered with the IRS (I hold a Preparer Tax Identification Number). I am not an Enrolled Agent, CPA, or attorney. I prepare federal and state returns, amended returns, and prior-year returns, and I help clients respond to IRS notices — I prepare the return or the written response and you sign and send it. I do not represent clients in an audit or appeal; if a matter needs that, I will tell you and point you in the right direction.
Where I work
The office is at 512 N Franklin St Suite 200, Tampa, FL 33602. I work with clients across Tampa Bay — Tampa, Riverview, Brandon, Valrico, and Seffner — in person or remotely, and with military families filing from wherever they are stationed.
